Specific Therapy Skills

The following are some of the methods employed by medical massage therapists.

• Postural Analysis---This tool allows the therapist to identify body stress areas.  Undue stress and pain is often caused by "guarding", unconsciously holding muscles in locked position.

• Extensive patient history---having a clear medical history and information about environment, work, pastime interest, and other activities provides the therapist with a blueprint from which to begin.

• Muscle resistance testing---To help identify muscle-tendon tears.

• Advanced Form of Trigger Point Therapy---This intriguing technique is safe and effective in reducing or removing pain by releasing the tissues that are feeding the trigger point.

• Myofascial Release Therapy---Sometimes fascia can become stuck through injury or holding patterns.  The traction methods of this therapy are very helpful in restoring normal range of motion.

• Transverse Friction Technique and Multidirectional Friction Technique---This is a valuable tool to soften scar tissue, and break down adhesions.

• Repetitive Use Injury Technique---This wonderful method can break pain barriers and restore normal function of injured muscles.

• Pelvic Stabilization--This protocol is designed to balance the core muscles.

• Eccentric Scar Tissue Alignment Technique--Aligns scar tissue in direction of movement.

• Differentiating Between Muscle/Tendon Tears and Trigger Points.

• Differentiating Between Tight Constricted Muscles vs Weak, Overstreched Muscles.
